Head constable in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu dies due to Covid-19

MADURAI: A head constable from Virudhunagar district, who tested positive for Covid-19, died on Sunday.
He is the first police official to have died due to Covid-19 among the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
He suffered from fever for the past few days and was treated at Rajapalayam government hospital. After he tested positive for Covid-19, he was shifted to Sattur Government Hospital. Later, he was again shifted to Government Rajaji Hospital on July 2.

He failed to respond to the treatment and died on Sunday morning. He was survived by his wife and two children, who studied in class VI and class III.
After the head constable tested positive, the police station was closed temporarily to carryout disinfection activities.
Covid-19 outbreak created panic waves among police personnel in Virudhunagar district and all officials were instructed by their heads to practice all precautious while on duty.
Virudhunagar district superintendent of police P Perumal said, “So far 18 police personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 in the district. Out of them four have been discharged.”
