Karnataka: Bike lifters’ gang busted in Dakshina Kannada

Dakshina Kannada police have arrested five youngsters involved in bike-lifting and seized four bikes and a car valued at Rs 3.6 lakh at Jain Pete, Belthangady. Police said the accused took to crime to live a lavish life.

MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada police have arrested five youngsters involved in bike-lifting and seized four bikes and a car valued at Rs 3.6 lakh at Jain Pete, Belthangady. Police said the accused took to crime to live a lavish life.
The arrested are Vijaya, 23, a resident of Surathkal; Pradeep, 27, a resident of Ulaibettu; Sudeesh KK, 20, a resident of Balepuni and Mohan, 21 and Nithin Kumar, 22, residents of Layla village.
Police said the arrested are friends and have lifted more than 25 bikes and used to sell them in Surathkal in Mangaluru.
Acting on a tip-off, police who were conducting regular check-ups near Jain Pete zeroed in on these bike lifters, who behaved suspiciously. During interrogation, the accused revealed their criminal activities. Later, police seized four bikes and a four-wheeler used to transport stolen bikes.
A case has been registered at Belthangady police station. The arrested have been produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.
