July 4 saw the re-opening of businesses including pubs, hairdressers, cinemas and much more.

We were lucky enough to be invited along to the opening day of Coventry's Showcase Cinema de Lux.

It was a brave new world of socially distanced cinema-going - so what was it like?

Upon entering, the staff members were very attentive and were all wearing suitable PPE including masks and gloves.

There was also hand sanitiser available to use.

After being asked to show our tickets, we were allowed to head to the food and drink counter.

Be aware that the Showcase are currently only taking card payments, so make sure you take a card if you want some snacks. The bar is also open for alcoholic drinks.

One tip is to make sure you don't arrive too early for your film, as all seating has been taped off. You may be standing around if you're too eager.

Once we were ready to head to the screen, with snacks in one hand and a ticket in the other, we were greeted by a man who scanned our tickets and opened the door for us. Very kind.

Straight away on the left you are met with the toilets, which have very clear instructions outside as to how people should act when using them.

We walked to the screen room and took our seats. As more people started to enter the theatre, we noticed everyone was sat apart, with around three seats between you and the next person.

After the film finished, which was the award-winning 1917, we exited the cinema through the fire doors at the back of the building.

There is a one-way system clearly marked on the floor, as well as signs showing where to stand at the concessions area to ensure you're the correct distance away.

All in all it was a lovely experience, with the cinema being well-managed and well-organised.

The one way system will work well if people follow the rules. Be sure to book your tickets online in advance however, as due to social distancing rules each theatre will now have limited seating.
