GREATER NOIDA: In the days to come 1,000 more beds would be added to isolate active Covid patients in Noida and Ghaziabad, an official said.
Gautam Budh Nagar district would attach two private colleges in Greater Noida to increase the Covid care beds. The two colleges are ITS Dental College and Bakson Homeopathy Medical College. Both the colleges are located in Knowledge Park area and are among the latest to be attached by the administration.
Officials said that 300 beds would be readied in the dental college while 200 beds are going to be set up in the homeopathy college.
“The two facilities would be earmarked to keep patients with no or mild symptoms. Both of them would be developed as L1 facilities to isolate Covid patients,” said an official from the health department.
Authorities in Noida have already earmarked about 3,000 beds to house Covid patients. While 1,900 such beds have been in private institutes, hotels and other establishments that have been attached by the administration, the remaining 1,100 are government buildings or hospitals.
Galgotias University hostel along the Yamuna Expressway remains the largest quarantine facility in the city with 960 beds. Meanwhile, office bearers of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Noida said they would follow up with the government officials again to find out if home isolation of Covid patients could be allowed.
“Increasing number of beds and L1 facilities would become meaningless if the administration does not have trained manpower and health workers to run them. Shortage of doctors and paramedic is going to be the biggest challenge,” reiterated president of the association, NK Sharma.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh government has also given a nod to the proposal of Ghaziabad district administration to add 500 more beds. The administration would soon turn in Radha Soami Satsang Beas, Duhai into a Covid facility, where around beds would be established. Also, Divya Jyoti ayurvedic college and hospital in Modinagar would be made a Covid care facility with 150 beds.
