HYDERABAD: In the wake of coronavirus cases still increasing in the city, the ritual of offering qurbani (sacrifice) and delivery of meat for Eid-al-Adha (Bakrid), which falls on July 31, has gone online. Social media is being used by parties offering to facilitate sacrifice and delivery of meat at the customer's doorstep.
In some cases, individuals are also offering direct services from sheep farms.
These services include selection of animals, slaughtering and cutting the meat into pieces. Prices for such schemes take into account the weight of the animal, slaughtering charges, cutting and packaging. Customers can use digital wallets to pay for the services.
"In the wake of the pandemic, we are trying to facilitate qurbani by making it just a phone call away. The motive of the scheme is to make the process feasible and affordable," said Mohammed Kazim of Decent General Trading.
Every year, ahead of Bakrid, large stretches in areas near Tolichowki, Salarjung Museum Road, Saidabad X roads among other places are allocated for temporary cattle markets which sees thousands of visitors.
However, this year, it is uncertain if authorities will allow such markets to operate.
