Speaking about Syama Prasad Mookerjee's contributions to the nation, Nadda asserted it was because of the efforts of the Jana Sangh founder that Bengal and large parts of Punjab are with India.

KOLKATA: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda on Monday told the West Bengal party unit in a virtual rally that it was the duty of the party workers to uproot the ruling Trinamool Congress which, he said, is obstructing the Centre’s development works.

“Violence, criminalisation of politics and corruption have scaled new heights. All the time we hear about ‘cut money,” said Nadda.Cut money – the siphoning of government’s financial aid to the members of the ruling Trinamool – was a raging issue in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which paid the BJP handsome rewards as its tally of LS seats went up to 18 from just two.The Assembly polls in the state are due next year.

As part of the BJP’s digital outreach on the 119th birth anniversary of the party’s architect Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Nadda said: “The TMC government is neither fulfilling the regional aspirations nor do the works of the state government reflect the cause of national unity.”

“We are proud that our government at the Centre has ensured that Jammu and Kashmir has now become an integral part of the country in the truest sense,” said Nadda, while recalling Mookerjee’s campaign for one nation, one Constitution and one symbol.

“Bengal used to be a pioneer in the field of education. Now, those who do not have allegiance to the ruling party do not get the credit that they deserve. Even the field of education is not exempted from it. The pride of Bengal has to be restored,” said Nadda.

State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee rejected Nadda’s allegations. “He tried to mislead the people of Bengal. The BJP can go to any extent. It does not care about distorting history. They want to destroy our culture and tradition,’’ he said.

Nadda accused the state government of trying to end the era of principled politics that Mukherjee lived for.
“The CM does not report Covid-19 cases to the Centre. What kind of federalism is this? She has barred Ayushman Bharat, a healthcare scheme for the poor, in Bengal,” he said.
