South Korean consumer electronics brand LG is set to expand its portfolio in the budget category as it plans to capitalise on the anti-China sentiment in the country right now, according to a report by The Economic Times.
As per the report, Advait Vaidya, business head - mobile communications at LG Electronics, has said that next month, the company plans to launch six smartphones.
“So, this year, starting August, we will be launching six phones across all segments - starting from the sub-Rs 10,000 category up to the flagship segment. We are ramping up distribution across channels, online and offline,” he said.
Not only that, but the company is also set to launch its tablets in India by the end of the year. It is said to focus on three aspects — building a strong online presence, offline expansion in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and new phones under Rs 15,000 price category.
“The short-term window of opportunity is big enough for us to enter the space and achieve scale,” Vaidya added.
The report also mentions that the company is working to partner with an Indian contract manufacturer and is soon expected to make an announcement on that front.
To recall, the company last launched a budget smartphone in 2019 in India with the launch of W-series in India. In this series, the company launched W10, W30 and W30 Pro. While the W30 Pro never got an official price, the LG W30 was launched at Rs 9,999 and the LG W10 was priced at Rs 8,999.
