Alan Shearer has tipped Mason Greenwood for a big future, both with Manchester United and England.

The 18-year-old forward scored two goals in a Premier League game for the first time ever with a brilliant brace in United's 5-2 demolition of Bournemouth on Saturday. It means Greenwood now has 15 goals in a sensational breakthrough campaign after being promoted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Shearer says United were right not to loan Greenwood out and believes the teenager has the world at his feet.

“Greenwood hasn’t been out on loan like a lot of young players — but why should he?” Shearer said in his column for the  Sun.

“He’s ripping it up at one of the biggest clubs in the world and that doesn’t happen to an average Joe at 18.”

“He can hit it with his left and hit it with his right equally well and there’s no nonsense, he just wants to shoot."

Shearer added that Greenwood reminds him of himself, before talking up the United player's chances of breaking into Gareth Southgate's England squad.

“He actually reminds me of what I used to do, shifting the ball on to the right foot before getting as much power as possible behind the shot," added the former Newcastle striker.

“If he keeps going at this rate, he could emerge as a world star in the coming years.

“In January, I tipped Greenwood as a wildcard for the Euros when they were due to take place this summer. And now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is ready to play for England.

“The postponement of Euro 2020 for a year could actually be a blessing for Greenwood and I’m sure Gareth Southgate will be watching closely.

“I would not be surprised if he gets a call-up later this year.”
