After 17 days of intense lockdown, Chennai eases restrictions today

Under intense lockdown from June 19 to fight the spread of the Coronavirus disease, Chennai, on Monday, July 6, eased several curbs.

Announcing relaxations for Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami had on Saturday, July 4, extended curbs for Madurai and nearby regions till July 12.

In a separate set of guidelines for areas that fall under the limits of Greater Chennai police and for neighbouring districts, the government has allowed vegetable and grocery shops to open from 6am to 6pm as against the earlier 6am to 2pm in Chennai and in the suburban areas under the jurisdiction of Greater Chennai Police.

The government has allowed further eases, including allowing restaurants to reopen with takeaway services only. But they can remain open till 9 pm from the present 2 pm. Also, the tea shops are allowed to resume functioning from 6am to 6pm but only with takeaway services.
