West Louisville teen turned beekeeper raising money to attend Trinity High School
LEARNED VALUABLE LESSONS ALONG THE WAY. >> IN TWO YEARS, KEITH GRIFFITH LEARNED ENOUGH ABOUT BEEKEEPING TO WRITE A BOOK ABOUT IT. TWICE A WEEK, KEITH AND HIS UNCLE TEND TO THEIR HIVES. HE WAS CURIOUS. >> FROM THERE, THEY LAUNCHED A HONEY BUSINESS CALLED BEING TOGETHER. THEY PACKAGE THE HONEY IN CONTAINERS AND SELL IT ONLINE. >> YOU CAN STILL SEE THE WETNESS. THE REST OF IT IS CAPPED. THAT’S RAW HONEY. THEY’RE STILL FILLING THOSE UP. >> THE WORK HELPED KEITH TO OPEN UP INTELLECTUALLY AND EMOTIONALLY AND IN SEPTEMBER 2019 HE PUBLISHED A BOOK. A West Louisville teen hopes his beekeeping and honey business can help him afford an education at Trinity High School.Keith Griffith III, the 13-year-old entrepreneur, started the business two years ago and has already learned enough about honeybees to write a book about it.Griffith III and his uncle, Shawn Griffith, launched the business called “Beeing 2gether.” They collect and package raw, local honey in 12-ounce containers and sell it online.The work helped Griffith III open up intellectually and emotionally. In September 2019, he published a book called “Honeybees and Beekeeping: A Mental Health Miracle.”Griffith said writing the book helped him through a tough time in life when his parents were incarcerated.“It really helped,” he said. “It was pretty fun to write.”The book is also for sale on Griffith's website. He said he hopes the business takes off and allows him to not only support his own education at Trinity High School, but to give back to charities and children in West Louisville.“My nephew is making it cool to care about your community, your neighborhood and environment and your health,” Shawn Griffin said. “I can honestly say at first I was just in it for the money, but then he started asking questions and we started learning about how bees are intertwined with humans and then metaphorically without them there wouldn’t be us and that’s how we came into this business and the ‘Beeing 2gether’ concept.”Click here to learn more about the business and for information on how to order honey.
