WESTERLY – The Washington Trust Co. collected 22,000 pounds – roughly 11 tons – of peanut butter to donate to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and other local food pantries, according to a news release.
The bank also matched more than $9,700 in online donations to the food bank as part of its 20th annual Peanut Butter Drive. Peanut butter was delivered on an ongoing basis to recipient food pantries to help meet increased demand amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, peanut butter was donated to the following local food pantries:
- Comprehensive Community Action Program
- Bread of Life Food Pantry
- Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen
- Jonnycake Center of Westerly
- Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale
- New Hope Chapel Pantry
- North Kingstown Food Pantry
- Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center
- Rhode Island Center for Assisting Those In Need
- Tri-County Community Action Agency
Since starting the annual drive in 2001, Washington Trust has collected more than 143 tons of peanut butter, the release stated.
