NOIDA: A 29-year-old female home guard deployed at the women's police station hanged self in her rented accommodation on Monday afternoon.
The incident happened around 4 pm on Monday when the home guard Parul returned to her rented accommodation in Morna after duty.
Her husband Amit Kumar, who too is a home guard deployed with the Dial 100 service in Sector 49 police station area, was playing with their seven-month-old daughter, when Parul went inside the washroom to take a bath.

Mahendra Singh, her father-in-law told TOI that after taking a bath, Parul locked herself in one of the rooms. When Amit realised that Parul was taking too much of time, he knocked the door but found it locked.
“He peeped through the grill only to find that Parul was hanging from the fan. He broke open the door and found her hanging with the fan inside. She was almost dead when removed from the noose.
He said that both had been earning well and had no problems. “We never got to know of any problem between the couple. Everything was fine between the couple and she had recently attended her brother’s-in-law wedding too,” he said adding that since the past four-five months, she had not been talking to the family members.

Mahendra however told TOI that Parul was upset over the fact that she had received two show-cause notices from the UP police headquarters after the incharge of the women’s police station allegedly sent an adverse report about her stating that she does duty for only three hours, misbehaves and does not listen to seniors, etc.
“One and a half month back, she received a show-cause notice from her headquarters in the aftermath of the secret report about her that she does her duty only for three hours, misbehaves and does not listen to seniors. The inspector had sent a report to Lucknow which resulted in the show-cause notice. However, the issue was handled and the notice was withdrawn. Surprisingly, she got another notice about five days back which upset her,” he said.
“She was in depression possibly due to which, she took the extreme step. We have heard so many cases like these. In fact, everyone knows how women are treated in police,” he said.
Parul’s husband Amit was in no condition to talk and inconsolable. Asked the reason about her suicide, he said he wanted to die after coming in front of a tractor.
Both have been married for the past 12 years.
When contacted, DCP (Noida) Sankalp Sharma however told TOI that they are verifying the allegations.
“Neighbours had been saying that her husband used to drink which could be the matter of contention. No complaint has been received about the mentioned notices. We are verifying it,” he said.
Manu Tomar, SHO, women’s police station told TOI that no notice had been given to either Parul or the headquarters about her performance and that Parul was coming regularly coming on duty.
The home guards have found themselves under scanner ever since the state was rocked by the multi-crore home guard scam in which the Gautam Budh Nagar police was first to take action. It was found how some of a group of platoon commandants in collusion with the head commandant, had been inflating the attendance of the home guards and siphoning off their salaries for their personal benefits.
Since then, the attendance of the home guards associated with different police stations was being monitored by the police station in-charge.
