Sanitiser and mask prices to be capped by Maharashtra govt

MUMBAI: State health minister Rajesh Tope said that the government has decided to cap prices of masks and sanitisers. He said that since masks and sanitisers are an essential part of the ‘new normal’, there was demand that the price of these essential items be capped.
“We have received complaints of people selling these items at an inflated price. We have decided to cap their price like we did for hospital charges and ambulance services.A notification will be issued in eight days,” Tope said, adding that the notification will be issued by the public health department along with the food and drug administration.
The Centre had issued an order, capping price of a 3-ply mask at Rs 10, a 2-ply at Rs 8 a piece and had said a 200ml bottle of sanitiser cannot cost over Rs 100. It was valid till June 30, but officials said it was never fully implemented as masks and sanitizers were sold at higher rates.
