MUMBAI: Two police personnel died due to Covid, a diabetic assistant sub inspector with Mumbai police, and a sub inspector with State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) with no comorbidities. The state police toll has now touched 70. Three police personnel from Vasai also tested positive on Monday.
Assistant sub inspector Sunil Adhav (57), attached to Bhoiwada police, died on Sunday night.
Adhav was being treated at Nair Hospital for a month. He had been on leave since April 28, per the police chief’s order that personnel above 55 years go on leave during Covid. Adhav tested positive for Covid on June 2. He is survived by his wife and 21-year-old daughter.
The 45-year-old SRPF sub inspector, of Group 11 posted in Mulund, tested positive on June 28. A senior officer said, “Doctors said his sugar levels rose dramatically, which was one of the reasons he died.” An officer said that while his Covid test came negative, he continued to be treated for it as he had breathing problems. The sub inspector passed away at KEM Hospital on July 3. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
An inspector and two constables from the Manickpur police tested positive. They were admitted to the isolation ward of a government hospital in Vasai. Swab samples of 25 other personnel at the police station were taken, and the policemen are in home quarantine.
