Hospital bosses have finally admitted failing an NHS worker who was sexually assaulted by a colleague – three years after it happened.

Pervert Eric Dang, 43, grabbed a fellow worker and “thrust” into her in a sickening attack outside a toilet at Livingston’s St John’s Hospital in 2017.

Last April, he was found guilty of sexual assault but was not fired from his job until a month later.

The victim had to wait another year for health chiefs to say sorry and was eventually given a £6400 payout.

She said: “He thrust himself into the back of me. The attack was shocking and something you never get over.”

At Livingston Sheriff Court, Dang, who denied the allegations, was handed a supervision order and put on the sex offenders’ register for five years.

After the attack, the victim went off work with stress for six weeks – her longest absence in 43 years.

She then asked MSP Neil Findlay and the Unison union for help. Labour MSP Findlay said: “NHS Lothian need to look into how they deal with such matters.

“It should never have taken three years to get to this stage.”

Bosses wrote to the victim, admitting: “We failed in supporting you, at the very time you needed support.”

She is now back at work but says the emotional scars of her ordeal remain.

NHS Lothian human resources director Janis Butler said: “In this instance, we fell short of our own high standards and have offered our
apologies, which we would like to once again repeat and reiterate.”
