Sathankulam custodial deaths: Five more cops arrested

MADURAI: The CB-CID probing the custodial deaths of a father-son duo -- P Jeyaraj and J Beniks -- in Tamil Nadu’s Sathankulam arrested five police personnel on Wednesday night.
This takes the total number of police personnel arrested in connection with the custodial deaths to 10.
The five police personnel were attached to the Sathankulam police station where Jeyraj and Beniks were tortured on June 19 night.
Inspector general of police (IG) for CB-CID K Shankar said the five cops had been arrested on charges of abetment of the crime. They held Jeyaraj and Beniks while the duo were being beaten up by a sub-inspector.
Those arrested on Wednesday night have been identified as special sub-inspector Paldurai, head constable Samadurai and Grade I police constables Vail Muthu, Chelladaurai and Thomas.
