57 people in rain-related incidents in 3 months
Mysuru: As many as 57 people died in flood, lightning and rainfall related incidents in the state between April 1 and July 5 this year despite moderate showers.
According a report prepared by the State Emergency Operation Centre under the State Disaster Management Authority, Karnataka recorded the highest number of deaths due to these reasons.
As per the report, around 3,180 houses were partially damaged, while 68 houses were fully damaged in the rainfall and the floods.
As many as 156 small animals and 106 big animals died in this period, says the report.
According to the report, Belagavi reported six deaths while Bidar and Vijayapura districts registered four deaths each. In Kodagu, 14 houses were partially damaged while this number is 216 in Mandya, 229 in Shivamogga, 93 in Hassan, 122 in Chikkkamagalur, 80 in Chamarajanagar and 318 in Mysuru district which is highest in the region. In Shivamogga, 11 houses were damaged in total.
Revenue department sources said four NDRF teams have been pre-deployed in Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Dharwad and Belagavi districts which are known for natural calamities in the monsoons. In Dakshina Kannada, SDRF and civil defense teams are also pre-deployed, they added.
“The damages to the infrastructure and agriculture are being assessed. The relief works are taken up with the funds available with the respective DCs,” explained an officer from the revenue department.
