KOLAR: Bangarpet tahsildar Chandramouleswar, 54, was stabbed to death allegedly by retired schoolteacher Venkatapatheppa, 65, on Thursday afternoon when he was surveying disputed farmland in Doddakalavanchi village, Bangarpet taluk, Kolar, about 75km from Bengaluru.
Venkatapatheppa was arrested later in the evening.
Around 3.30pm, Chandramouleswar was surveying a piece of farmland to which Ramamurthy and Venkatapatheppa, both residents of Doddakalavanchi, had staked claim.
The tahsildar was accompanied by surveyor Santosh and three cops.
Even as the survey was under way, Venkatapatheppa got agitated as he felt he would lose what he considered his land. He marched up to the tahsildar and shouted at him. When the tahsildar warned him of arrest, Venkatapetheppa challenged the official to go ahead. He then whipped out a knife and stabbed the tahsildar in the chest.
The tahsildar collapsed and was rushed to a Bangarpet hospital where he was given first aid. He succumbed to injuries on the way to a hospital in Kolar, police said.
