Qatar Participates in Global Summit to Discuss Impact of COVID-19 on Global Economy

Doha - The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs, participated in the virtual global summit of the International Labor Organization to discuss the economic and social impacts of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), held during the period from July 1-9, 2020 via video conference.

The summit discussed a number of issues related to the impact of the pandemic on the labor market and workforce, and the policies that countries must take to address the negative impact of COVID-19 on the economic field.

Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Affairs at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Mohammed Hassan Al Obaidly delivered a speech at the summit during which he affirmed that the State of Qatar has been since the beginning of the crisis keen on developing deliberate plans to address the impact of COVID-19 on the social and economic scale, and stressed its endeavor to unify its efforts through international cooperation and collective work to address crises.

He added that the State of Qatar participated in many international events within this context, and the State of Qatar, upon the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, extended assistance to more than 20 countries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Assistant Undersecretary of Labor Affairs affirmed that the State of Qatar will continue its cooperation and joint work to achieve recovery and provide all assistance to tackle the economic repercussions of the crisis in order to secure and stabilize all parties to the labor market and sustain business and employment for a better future.
