LUCKNOW: Heavy rainfall with lightning and thunderstorms might occur in the eastern and northern parts of the state between Friday and Sunday. Lucknow is expected to get heavy rains for 24 hours from Saturday morning. Light to moderate showers would occur across the state during this period.
State Met director JP Gupta said that the monsoon trough line—an extended low pressure area—is passing from the foothills of Himalayas and a cyclonic circulation has developed over Haryana.
The two factors will cause widespread rains in the state till Sunday, he added.
The Met department also issued a warning for people to be prepared for possibility of heavy rains with lightning and thunderstorms in most districts of eastern UP and some in the central, besides those bordering Nepal and Uttarakhand along Terai region and west UP.
The districts expected to get heavy showers at some point between Friday and Sunday include Lucknow, Faizabad, Sitapur, Varanasi, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ballia, Mau, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedakar Nagar, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Basti, Bhadohi, Maharajganj, Siddharth Nagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Pilibhit, Rampur, Bijnor, Bareilly, Shajahanpur, Rampur and Moradabad.
