Punjab: Ropar DC, her husband test Covid-19 positive; office sealed

PATIALA: With reports of Ropar deputy commissioner, her husband, both IAS officers and SDM Ropar testing positive for Covid-19 infection, the health authorities have come into action and sealed the entire District Administrative Complex. Deputy Commissioner’s husband, an IAS officer is also a member with state Covid control room.
Ropar Deputy Commissioner said that she and her husband have been confirmed of Covid-19 infection but both of them were asymptomatic.
She claimed that her mother-in-law and father-in-law and their maid had tested negative of the virus infection while the reports of her minor daughter were awaited. She claimed she was stable in health.
It is learnt that the health authorities have taken samples of around 110 persons including the senior officials working in the district complex in Ropar for testing. The complex has been closed for three days, at least. A pamphlet has been pasted on the wall near the deputy commissioner office maintaining that there will be no public dealing for three days.
The health authorities revealed that the SDM Ropar was isolated whereas the Deputy Commissioner is home isolated. The authorities claimed that the further contact tracing of the Ropar DC and SDM was being done.
A video of the employees being tested of the Covid-19 by the health authorities in Ropar has been also making rounds over some social media Whatsapp groups.
Dr Rajesh Bhaskar, Punjab government spokesperson for Covid-19, confirmed that so far two IAS officer, an IPS officer and 13 PCS officers are confirmed with the virus infection.
Dr Rajiv Aggarwal nodal officer Ropar, said, “The administrative complex will be sanitized completely. So far two persons are isolated in our isolation ward including SDM Ropar and one suspected patient. Ropar DC has been home isolated. The contact tracing is being done thoroughly.”
Meanwhile in Patiala 22 more cases were reported positive including four reported as positive from PGI Chandigarh. The health officials claimed that among the positive cases 18 persons are from Patiala city, three from Nabha and one from Rajpura block of the district. The tally so far has reached to 501 cases of which 268 are active cases while 223 have recovered and 10 persons have lost their lives.
