Covid-19: 416 positive cases in Kerala, 242 contact cases

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The contact cases have started superseding the import cases which shows that the state is heading for a strong community spread. A massive surge in the cases was witnessed on Friday when 416 positive cases were reported. The total number of contact cases in the day are 242 when the import cases are 174.
The state capital continues to be the hot spot of Covid-19 with 129 positive cases reported in the day.Of this 122 are contact cases and have been reported from three wards Manikyavilakom, Poonthura and Puthenpally. Thiruvananthapuram is the only district in the state which has more contact cases than the import cases. From May 4 to July 10, the district reported 237 imported cases when the contact cases are 382.
Among the new cases 416 reported in the day, 35 are Indo-Tibetan Border Force personnel in Alappuzha. Following this 80 more ITBF people have been out under observation. Apart from this one more CISF person in Kannur and two BSF people in Thrissur have been tested positive.
Thiruvananthapuram recorded the maximum numner of positive cases 129 followed by 50 from Alappuzha, 41 from Malappuram, 32 from Pathanamthitta, 28 each from Kollam and Palakkad, 23 from Kannur, 20 from Ernakulam, 17 each from Thrissur and Kasaragod, 12 each from Kozhikode and Idukki, and 7 from Kottayam have been declared positive.
In the last 24 hours 11693 samples were collected in the state for testing. Till date 226868 samples (including repeat, augmented and private lab samples) have been sent for testing out of which results of 4525 are pending. Apart from above, 70122 samples were taken from priority groups like health care workers, persons with high social exposure, workers etc. as part of sentinel surveillance of which 66132 samples tested negative.
As many as 184112 persons are placed under surveillance, out of which 180595 are under home/institutional quarantine and 3517 are admitted in designated isolation facilities. Meanwhile 112 patients under treatment were tested negative in the day.
