Kolkata: Border Security Force has apprehended five Bangladeshi smugglers and foiled cattle smuggling bid at Murshidabad district of West Bengal. BSF Intelligence Branch tipped off the security personnel of 141 Battalion at Bousmari border post under Behrampur sector. Acting on the intel-input, on the intervening night of July 8 and 9, a team was formed at Bousmari border post. During the swift operation, five cattle smugglers were nabbed from neighbouring Bangladesh along with five cattle.

During questioning, the smugglers revealed their identity as Anindu Ali, Mohammad Mithun Ali, Mohammad Liton, Mohammad Alamgir Mandal and Mohammed Bhagu Mandal, all from Bangladesh’s Kushtia District. While investigations, BSF Intelligence Branch found out the seized cattle from the smugglers belong to 40-year-old Tapan Haldar residing in Jalangi District of Murshidabad. The cattle smugglers revealed that they are paid rupees 5,000 per cattle that they carry from Haldar in Jalangi and hand them over to Moni Sheikh in Rajshahi District in Bangladesh.

N. S.Rautela, the Commanding Officer of 141 Battalion praised the BSF jawans for the successful operation. “It is our great success in the effort to stop smuggling, in which we caught five Bangladeshi smugglers red-handed. Smugglers always take advantage of the rain to smuggle cattle. For this they inject narcotics in the body of the cattle so that the cattle can run at high speed and cross the international border”, he said. The Commanding Officer added, “During heavy rainfall, our jawans face difficulties due to the water logging in the farmland but the jawans remain well-motivated for "zero smuggling" aim. So far in 2020, BSF troops of South Bengal Frontier have so far rescued 2497 animals from being smuggled across the border.
