A new, four-year contract for teachers of Maine Township High School District 207 was ratified recently by the union and the board of education.

The contract, which has not yet been released to the public, is effective from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2024. It was approved unanimously by the school board during a special virtual meeting held on June 25.

The contract includes pay raises of 2% for the first year, with raises for the remaining years based on the consumer price index for that particular year and not exceeding 4%, said Brett Clark, spokesman for District 207.

The contract also includes what the district refers to as “cost of living protections for taxpayers.” In the event that state property tax legislation results in a reduction of revenue to the school district for multiple years beyond 2022, the teachers have agreed to a freeze in cost of living raises, a statement from District 207 said.

“For several years the Illinois legislature has contemplated property tax legislation that would limit a district from collecting additional property taxes under the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law,” Clark said. “If legislation like this was passed, that would trigger the freeze.”

The contract is expected to be shared publicly once contract details are finalized, according to District 207.
