LUCKNOW/VARANASI: Crackdown on organised crime continued across the state. A gangster from Gorakhpur carrying a Rs 50,000 reward on his head was gunned down in Bahraich.UP STF nabbed the accused, Panna Yadav aka Doctor, early on Friday morning. Yadav was injured in the encounter at Ahiranpurwa village in Hardi area of Bahraich. He was rushed to the district hospital where he was declared brought dead.
IG STF, Amitabh Yash, said that Yadav was a resident of Gorakhpur and was named in over 36 crime cases of loot, dacoity, robbery and extortion.
“Yadav was elusive from 28 years along with his henchmen who used to operate in Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Basti, Maharajganj and Kheri,” said Yash. The accused opened fire when asked to surrender and the police retaliated by hitting back. The STF unit was tipped off about the presence of Yadav at Ahiranpurwa forest.
Meanwhile, continuing the crackdown on the economic empire and network of the jailed don Mukhtar Ansari, UP Police confiscated properties worth Rs. 3.71 crore of his aide and fish mafia Ravindra Kumar Nishad in Jaunpur on Friday.
Jaunpur SP Ashok Kumar said that the properties of Nishad have been confiscated under the Gangster Act. The confiscated properties included a shopping mall worth Rs. 2.9 crores at Jogiyapur, vehicles and a house. Nishad was arrested on July 4 and booked under Gangster Act.
In Mau, wife of a henchman of Mukhtar was booked for procuring arm license by hiding the crime history of her husband.
