Will Smith 's fans are convinced he looked like a "broken man hiding his pain" in his heartwrenching chat with wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

The Hollywood actor, 51, and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, 48, lifted the lid on their personal problems in a dramatic showdown on Red Table Talk last night.

During the chat, Jada confirmed she'd had a relationship with singer August Alsina, 27, with the actress calling the fling an "entanglement".

Will admitted he feared their marriage was over in a heartbreaking chat with his wife.

Footage of the session has been circulating online, and fans have flocked to Twitter to express their sympathy.

Many declared they haven't seen Will looking so sad since he starred in 2006 movie The Pursuit of Happyness - about a salesman's struggle with homelessness.

One tweeted: "No matter how much Will Smith tries to keep it together. The fact remains Jada has broken this brother.

"He has never looked like this since the movie Pursuit of Happiness [sic] and we all know what that facial expression means..."

Another wrote: "For someone that's a good actor, Will Smith tried so hard to hide pain he was feeling hearing Jada give her #entanglement speech."

A third added: "That fake smile from Will Smith is just heartbreak to the core. Will is a great actor but you can't act that s**t, that's real."

The Hollywood couple's marriage was thrust into the spotlight last month when August claimed he'd had an affair with Jada with Will's blessing.

Jada and Will - who wed in 1997 - addressed the claims in the episode of Red Table Talks, with the actress confirming she did have a romance with August.

However, she insisted their marriage had hit the rocks and they were on a break at the time.

Jada refereed to her relationship with August as an "entanglement" and put to bed the idea that Will gave his permission for them to become sexual partners.

Will detailed how he and Jada came to the decision to part as they thought they were going to end their marriage, prior to her hooking up with August.

He said: "When Aug first came around, he was really sick. The outpouring for him from our family was initially about his health.

Jada added: "We found all those different resources to help pull from there. You and I were going through difficult time."

Will explained: "I was done with you... We were gonna separate. You go figure out how to make each other happy... We could be over."

His wife on to explain she then got into a relationship with August, saying: "From there. As time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement.

"You giving permission only circumstance is myself. August was probably trying to communicate, I could see how he would perceive it as permission as we were separated amicably. He wanted to make it clear he's not a home wrecker. Which he's not."

However, the pair pater decided to give their marriage another shot and Smith said it was a "miracle" they were able to patch things up.

He explained: "I wasn't sure I was ever gonna speak to you again. It's a miracle. Certain things you have to go through...

"There's a real power. I'm gonna get you back. I said I can love you through anything."
