RAJKOT: Morbi’s clock industry has voluntarily declared one week’s lockdown starting from Sunday to control the spread of Covid-19 in the region. The clock cluster accounts for 75 per cent share in Indian clock industry.
Morbi registered 15 positive cases on Friday which is one day highest positive cases and a total above 90 people tested positive so far in the district. President of Morbi Clock and Parts Manufacturing Association, Shashank Dangi said “There are nearly 16000 women working in our cluster out of that nearly 14,000 are coming from rural areas where the spread of Covid is limited.
We took this decision for the betterment of the society to control the spread of disease in rural areas.”
There are nearly 80 units manufacturing wall clocks but looking to the very less demand because the marriage and other functions are on halt the units work only two to five days in a week. The clock industries are struggling to get orders.
