Odisha: Thunderstorm likely in 14 districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for several districts in northern Odisha and a few places in southern Odisha for the next two days.

BHUBANESWAR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for several districts in northern Odisha and a few places in southern Odisha for the next two days.
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Sonepur, Sambalpur, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj in the next 24 hours, the IMD bulletin said. The IMD also predicted thunderstorm and lightning in 14 districts of Odisha.
It includes Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Dhenkanal.
Even though the southwest monsoon is quite active in the state, several districts have recorded below normal rainfall. Light to moderate rainfall has occurred over many places in the districts of interior Odisha and at one or two places in coastal Odisha.
Titilagarh recorded the maximum rainfall of 48.6 mm between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Sunday. It was followed by 16 mm of rain in Cuttack. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack received sporadic rainfall in the last 24 hours giving some respite from the heat. The capital city recorded 27 mm rainfall on Saturday, but remained dry on Sunday.
