Latin America overtakes US, Canada as region with second highest coronavirus deaths

Latin America has overtaken the US and Canada to become the second worst-hit region in terms of coronavirus deaths.
 
Almost 145,000 people have died there so far, half of them in Brazil.
 
Only Europe has recorded more fatalities, with more than 200,000 deaths.
 
The news comes as Mexico passed 35,000 deaths - the fourth-highest toll in the world.
 
The World Health Organisation says the epicentre of COVID-19 remains in the Americas where more than 50% of  the world's cases have been recorded.
