Nizamabad Government General Hospital superintendent quits over body being taken in auto
Hyderabad: Nizamabad Government General Hospital superintendent Dr M Nageshwara Rao on Monday resigned owning moral responsibility for the recent deaths of three Covid-19 patients. The GGH was also embroiled in a controversy when one of the bodies was handed over to the family members by the hospital staff without following the due protocol. Dr Rao sent his resignation to the DME. Though he did not take calls, he said 'yes' in response to a message if he had put in his papers.
Asked why he quit, responded saying: "Due to personal reasons."
The body was taken in the auto by the family which also conducted the last rites without following the guidelines. An enquiry was ordered by the superintendent as to who handed over the body to the family. There were also allegations that there was no supply of oxygen to Covid-19 patients in the hospital, as a result of which they had died. A preliminary enquiry has revealed that the family was unwilling to wait for an ambulance.
When contacted, DMHO Dr M Sudarshanam told TOI that he was not aware of the resignation of Dr Rao.
