Nasarawa’s 14-year-old girl commits suicide over unwanted pregnancy

Tragedy has struck in the Andaha community, Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, as a 14-year-old girl, Anigta Ibrahim, aka Bony, has committed suicide over an unwanted pregnancy.

It was gathered that the girl, who refused to heed to her parents’ advice not to terminate the pregnancy, died after taking herbs to terminate it.

The incident happened on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the girl’s boyfriend had claimed responsibility for the pregnancy and promised to marry her.

Anigta was a pupil of the Government Science School, Andaha.

The Personal Assistant to the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Audu Iliya, who was at the scene of the incident, said, “She was taken to the General Hospital in Gwantu, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, but unfortunately, she died.”

The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ramhan Nansel, said the police had yet to receive the report of the incident.
