Karnataka: Incessant rains damage houses in Dakshina Kannada

Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts received good rainfall on Friday. There were reports of damages to houses and other properties due to the incessant rainfall that have been lashing the district for the past three days.

MANGALURU: Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts received good rainfall on Friday. There were reports of damages to houses and other properties due to the incessant rainfall that have been lashing the district for the past three days.
While a house was damaged due to rain at Jalsoor in Sullia taluk, a compound wall of a house collapsed due to rain at Bajpe near Mangaluru.
A house was fully damaged at Bondathila after a tree fell on it.
In the past 24 hours ending at 8.30am, Friday, the district received an average of 81mm rainfall, with Sullia taluk receiving the highest rainfall of 95mm followed by Puttur taluk at 81mm.
Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks received 74mm and 77mm rain respectively. Udupi district received an average of 90mm rain.
The highest rainfall of 162mm was recorded at Kirimanjeshawara in Kundapur Taluk of Udupi district. Udupi district received 74% excess rain as against the normal average for the day at 81mm. In DK, it was 50% more for the day at 57mm and Uttara Kannada received 36mm of rainfall, which was 7% more than normal.
KSNMDC bulletin stated that high waves in the range of 2.7 - 3.7 meters were forecast along the coast of Karnataka from Mangaluru to Karwar, warning fishermen not to venture into the sea.
