Hemtabad MLA’s widow in HC for CBI probe
Kolkata: The widow of former BJP MLA from Uttar Dinajpur’s Hemtabad Debendra Nath Roy, whose body was found hanging in front of a closed shop, has moved the Calcutta High Court seeking a CBI investigation into the unnatural death.
Chandrima Roy made the prayer days after the state police held that it appeared to be a case of suspected suicide. Chandrima said she had reasons to believe that it was a murder and the state police was acting in a “pre-determined” manner to substantiate the suicide theory.
“It is hard to believe that a normal person will go to a shop at midnight, tie up his hands and legs and commit suicide by hanging,” she said in her petition.
Chandrima said the conduct of police and statements by ruling party leaders “leaves doubt” on how far the investigation was “neutral and fair”.
