Hon’ble mention for CM on guv’s Birbhum visit
Suri: West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar paid rare tribute to chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday while paying a visit to the family of Rajesh Orang, one of the 20 Indian Army soldiers martyred in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley nearly a month ago.
Dhankar was accompanied by Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, who also paid tribute to the brave soldier.
The governor handed over Rs 11 lakh to Orang’s family at their home in Belgoria village near Suri.
“This is a worthy place,” Dhankar said while referring to Birbhum, adding: “Rabindranath Tagore set up Santiniketan here. Five of the 51 peethas are in Birbhum. Several great people were born here, including Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. Even our chief minister Mamata Banerjee is from here. Rajesh Orang has now turned this district into the land of the brave through his supreme sacrifice.”
