Two from Sundar Bhati gang held for killing vendor

Greater Noida: Two gangsters from Sundar Bhati gang were arrested on Thursday night from near FNG road in Sector 144 following a gunfight between them and Surajpur police. Cops said they had killed a vegetable vendor, Durgesh, outside AVJ Heights on July 9 when he had refused to pay the amount they asked.
Police said Yogesh and Kapil Bhatia had a reward of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 on them respectively.While Yogesh has over 12 cases of murder, robbery, attempt to murder and extortion lodged against him at various police stations, Bhatia was also wanted in four cases of robbery and gang crimes.
Harish Chander, DCP (Central Noida) told TOI a tip-off was received regarding their movement in the area after which teams were set up. "To escape, the accused fired at the police team, however, when the cops retaliated the accused received bullet injuries in their legs," he said.
They were intercepted in a stolen Brezza car.
Chander added that Yogesh is a dreaded sharpshooter who has more than a seven-year-long criminal record with the Sundar Bhati gang. "In 2013, he had shot his rival, Nandu alias Ravan, when he was brought for appearance in Bijnor court. Apart from this, he has carried out seven crimes in Gautam Budh Nagar, including two cash robberies and snatching of a Brezza car last year that has now been recovered," he said. A fresh case of Arms Act has been lodged against the duo since two illegal pistols were recovered from their possession.
However, cops have so far have denied the involvement of a sub-inspector’s son who has previously been accused by the deceased and his family of demanding extortion and later perpetrating the deadly attack. "The accused son of the cop had also raised an extortion demand from the victim. A case has already been lodged in the matter in May but his role in the killing is not clear yet. A detailed investigation is underway," he added.
