UP’s Covid milestone: Record 54,000 tests conducted in 24 hours

Setting a new record, labs in UP conducted a whopping 54,207 novel coronavirus tests in the past 24 hours. While the majority of tests were conducted through the RT PCR method, rapid and TruNat methods also contributed.

LUCKNOW: Setting a new record, labs in UP conducted a whopping 54,207 novel coronavirus tests in the past 24 hours. While the majority of tests were conducted through the RT PCR method, rapid and TruNat methods also contributed.
Health officials stated that this was the maximum number of tests done by any state in the country in a single day. The nearest competitor Tamil Nadu conducted 47,539 tests in 24 hours.
The new addition took UP’s total number of tests conducted to 13,79,534.
“As many as 54,207 coronavirus tests in 24 hours is a new benchmark. It is the maximum number of tests done by any state in India. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed health officials to conduct 50,000 tests per day and the milestone has been achieved,” said additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad.
Meanwhile, 1,733 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the state in the past 24 hour, taking the total number of pandemic infection cases in the state to 45,163. The state also recorded 959 recoveries taking the total number of discharged to 27,634.
A record number of 38 deaths in 24 hours was also reported in the state, taking the total to 1,084. As per the Covid bulletin, eight persons died in Kanpur, while five succumbed to the infection in Prayagraj. Three deaths were reported in Moradabad, while two persons each died in Rampur, Jhansi and Gorakhpur.
Meerut, Gautam Budh Nagar, Lucknow, Firozabad, Varanasi, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Muzaffarnagar, Deoria, Rae Bareli, Bareilly, Bhadoi, Mirzapur, Farrukhabad, Unnao and Baghpat recorded one death each.
Among new cases, Lucknow led the list with 151 entries. The others in the top 10 included: Kanpur Nagar (142), Ghaziabad (139), Gautam Budh Nagar (84), Jhansi(71), Varanasi (65), Mainpuri (63), Gorakhpur (60), Ballia (55) and Meerut (54).
