Amethi woman, daughter attempt self-immolation at gate of Lok Bhawan

An Amethi district resident woman and her daughter attempted self-immolation at the gate of Lok Bhawan at Vidhansabha Road in Hazratganj on Friday evening. Safia (50) suffered 45 per cent burns while her daughter Gudiya (28) suffered 15 percent of burns. Both had been admitted to Civil Hospital.

LUCKNOW: An Amethi district resident woman and her daughter attempted self-immolation at the gate of Lok Bhawan at Vidhansabha Road in Hazratganj on Friday evening. Safia (50) suffered 45 per cent burns while her daughter Gudiya (28) suffered 15 percent of burns. Both had been admitted to Civil Hospital.
Police said that duo women reached the Lok Bhawan gate around 5.30pm on Friday and doused themselves with some inflammable liquid on them before setting themselves afire.
Seeing them engulfed in fire, the cops present there rushed to the scene. They somehow contained the fire and rushed both to Civil Hospital.
Joint commissioner of police, law and order, Naveen Arora said that the police were working in the case and the family of both the women had been informed of the incident.
"Condition of elder woman is serious while the duo are being also tested for Covid-19," he said.
“Safia had a dispute with some of the residents of her village on a drain which passed near her house but she alleged that nobody paid heed,” Pandey said the duo claimed.
