The Rewa football team have maintained their lead at the Vodafone Premier League points table.

Rewa was held to a 0-0 draw by Suva at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

What happened: Both teams started strongly as they wanted to secure three points.

Rewa midfielder Tevita Waranaivalu combined well with striker Anish Khem but were only denied by the Suva defence led by Filipe Baravilala and goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara.

It took time for Suva to settle down but individual play seemed to be their setback.

Striker Christopher Wasasala was closely marked by reliable Rewa defender Peniame Drova.

Suva had their chances to score but failed to capitalise on them.

In the second half, both teams tried their best but found it hard to adapt to the rain as the surface became slippery.

Comment: Rewa coach Marika Rodu said they did not play up to expectations.

“We need to maintain our lead at the points table.

“It was a good game as both teams did not want to lose any point.

“For our strikers they were not hungry enough but I’ll make some changes.”

Suva coach Babs Khan said: “Rewa played well in the first half but we came out firing in the second half. We need to work on our finishing.”
