    • With the highest single-day spike of 40,425 new cases, India's COVID-19 count crossed 11 lakh on Monday.
    • The Health Ministry said that the total number of cases in the country now stands at 11,18,043 and the toll has gone up to 27,497 with 681 deaths in the last 24 hours.
    • The total number of cases includes 3,90,459 active cases and 7,00,087 cured/discharged/migrated patients.

    Indian naval ships conduct passage exercise with USS Nimitz carrier strike group

    • With an aim to improve the cooperation between US and Indian maritime forces, Indian naval ships on Monday conducted a passage exercise (PASSEX) with the United States Navy's USS Nimitz carrier strike group near the Andaman and Nicobar islands as it is transiting the Indian Ocean.
    • Speaking to ANI, Lt. Cmdr. Liza Dougherty, the warship's spokeswoman, confirmed that the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group which comprises of flagship USS Nimitz (CVN 68), Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59), and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Sterett (DDG 104) and USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114), is participating in cooperative exercises with the Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean commencing July 20.

    Egypt extends state of emergency for 3 months

    • Egypt's Parliament approved on Monday a presidential decree extending the state of emergency in the country for three more months starting from July 27, state-run Nile TV reported.
    • "The decision has been taken to face the ongoing dangerous health and security conditions in the country," the general committee of the House of Representatives said.
    • According to the decree, "the armed forces and the police will take the necessary measures to fight terrorism and its finance, maintain security nationwide, protect public and private properties and protect the lives of citizens."

    Andhra reports 4,074 new Covid cases, crosses 53K mark, suffers 54 deaths

    • Andhra reported discharging 24,228 persons so far while reporting 28,800 active cases by Monday.
    • Over the last 24 hours, the state tested 33,580 samples, taking the total to 13,49,112 tests to date, the third-highest in India after Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
    • AP reported 25,264 tests per million population against the national average of 10,128 tests.
    • The state saw a positivity rate of 3.98% as against the national average of 7.96%, a recovery rate of 45.1% against the national average of 62.62% and a mortality rate of 1.3% as against the national average of 2.46%.
