MUMBAI: The state is drafting norms to allow travel to Konkan for the
Ganpati festival. It is likely that
ST buses will be operated on the route, with
guidelines of social distancing in place. Currently, inter-district travel in the state is not allowed.
Transport minister Anil Parab said due to the appeal made by CM
Uddhav Thackeray, celebrations will be low-key. Every year lakhs of people travel to Konkan from Mumbai and other parts of the state for the festival.
Before allowing it this year, it must be ensured that all health guidelines are followed. “We have sought guidelines from the public health department to ensure cases in Konkan do not rise if travel i permitted,” said Parab.
A few gram panchayats in Konkan passed resolutions that a 14-day quarantine will be compulsory for those who come. They will allow people to come only till August 7. The festival begins on August 22.
