Four die as truck overturns after hitting two-wheeler in Tamil Nadu

DHARAMAPURI: Four men died when a truck overturned after hitting a two-wheeler and the median on the Bengaluru-Salem National Highway at Thoppur in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as truck driver J Selvam, 30, of Sangiliandapuram in Trichy district, cleaner K Thangaraj, 55, of Vazhapadi in Salem district, two-wheeler rider K Chinnavan, 55, of Purikkal in Dharmapuri district and pillion rider M Ariya Goundar, 53, of Purikkal.

The truck was going to Trichy district from Sivadi in Dharmapuri district carrying iron girders.
When the truck neared the Thoppur ghat section around 2am, Selvam lost his control of the vehicle. “The truck hit a two-wheeler that was going in front of it,” said a police officer at Thoppur police station.
After hitting the two-wheeler, the truck rammed the road median and overturned.
The accident affected traffic on the road for two hours. The Thoppur police rushed to the spot and removed the vehicles involved in the accident. The bodies of the four men were sent to the Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
The police registered a case.
