Chopra boy died due to poisoning, says autopsy

Chopra boy died due to poisoning, says autopsy
RAIGANJ: The twin deaths in Uttar Dinajpur’s Chopra, where a 16-year-old girl was found dead on Sunday and the body of a boy she allegedly had a relationship with discovered the next day, continued to fan political tension in the district on Wednesday.
The autopsy conducted on the boy indicated he had died due to “poisoning”, the same reason cited in the girl’s report. BJP workers staged a stir at Raiganj when these findings came to light, calling it a case of “appeasement politics”.
BJP state vice-president Raju Bandyopadhyay was arrested at the protest.
“Police arrested the girl’s father and two brothers based on a complaint from the boy’s father. But no action was taken on the complaint from the girl’s family. It is a glaring instance of appeasement politics,” said Bandyopadhyay, claiming both postmortem reports were “doctored”.
Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh threw his weight behind Bandyopadhyay. “At Chopra (Uttar Dinajpur) police are helping the murderers. They even arrested the parents of the 16 year old murdered girl. We demand the immediate arrest of the girl’s murderers,” he tweeted.
Islampur SP Sachin Makkar, however, justified the arrests. “We have reason to believe that the girl’s family members had a hand in the boy’s unnatural death. His cellphone and bicycle were recovered from them,” he said.
