Two drug dealers were arrested along with 230 kg of opium that was legally cultivated but was being diverted illegally in am open market.
NEW DELHI: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized the largest quantity of opium this year, that was being transported to Jodhpur from Chittorgarh on Thursday. NCB officials say two of the drug dealers were arrested along with 230 kg of opium worth Rs 42 crore, that was legally cultivated but was being diverted illegally in am open market.

Following the seizure, the NCB drug traffickers are tapping into licit opium production areas of Rajasthan. Under the scanner of NCB are opium cultivators in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
"Some of the legal cultivators, especially those in the districts of Mandsaur, Neemuch and Ratlam of Madhya Pradesh and Chittorgarh and Jhalawar of Rajasthan having illegally diverting it in the open market and selling it to intermediaries for profit," said Malhotra.
There are eligibility criteria fixed for cultivator based on minimum quantity yield of opium that needs to be produced by the opium cultivator to be eligible for renewal of his license next year.
To get a license for opium cultivation, this year, the average yield of morphine in opium (MQY-M) was fixed at not less than 4.5 kilogram per hectare.
