HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought a report from the Suryapet district collector on a Dalit widow’s petition alleging that some people had hatched a plan to grab her plot of land to utilise it for burial ground.
A government piece of land of three acres 30 guntas was allotted to Somapangu Muttama after her husband Somapangu Venkaiah was killed in a political struggle in 1987.
In a petition filed in the SHRC, Muttama complained that some persons with a malafide intention planned to grab the land on the pretext that she does not belong to their village and that there is no land belonging to her in their village.

Following her petition, the SHRC has directed the Suryapet district collector to take the necessary steps for protection of the land belonging to the petitioner and submit a report within two weeks. The matter was posted on September 23, 2020.
