9-year-old from Amravati state’s likely youngest Covid victim
Nagpur: A nine-year-old boy from rural Amravati, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 just a day ago, died in Covid ICU of Nagpur GMCH on July 25.
The victim, who was having several complications, including quadriparesis and respiratory failure, could be the youngest victim of Covid-19 in the state. Doctors at GMCH said that the boy was having spine-related complications right from an early age but was brought to GMCH quite late in a critical condition.
Apart from this boy, 11 deaths were reported in a day in Vidarbha which took the total Covid-19 death toll to 304.
Out of these, 146 have been reported in 25 days of July only. Nagpur reported the highest six deaths, followed by 2 each in Amravati and Yavatmal and 1 each in Akola and Buldhana.
The case fatality rate of Vidarbha is 2.6%. But, as a spike of 12 deaths recorded for the first time since the pandemic outbreak, the Covid-19 death count is getting serious in the region.
Once again more than 400 cases were reported in the Vidarbha on July 25. These include Nagpur (150), Gadchiroli (69), Amravati (61), Akola (49), Chandrapur (47), Washim (30), Buldhana (29), Wardha (13), Yavatmal (10), Bhandara (8), and Gondia (2). With this, the total count of cases reached 11591. In Buldhana, a one-month old boy from Jalgaon Jamod tested positive for Covid-19 who happens to be the youngest Covid-19 patient of the region.

Recoveries continued with 295 patients discharged in a day. These include – Nagpur (85), Buldhana (71), Akola (60), Amravati (32), Gadchiroli (19), Wardha (10), Bhandara (8), Chandrapur (6), Washim (4), and Gondia (2). In all, 7734 patients have recovered so far. The recovery rate of Vidarbha is 66.7% which is higher than the state and national average.
Amravati: Posting a 60-plus spike for the sixth consecutive day, the district took its Covid count to 1669 with 61 new cases. Two deaths took the district’s covid death toll to 47. With 32 getting discharge on Saturday, the number of recovered patients reached 1098. This has left 524 active cases, including 14 getting treated in Nagpur.
A report from the civil surgeon’s office said that a 62-year-old man from Shegaon-Rahatgaon road near Deshmukh Lawns, who tested positive on July 22, breathed his last on July 25. A 54-year-old man from Sonal Colony, who tested positive on July 23 also died on Saturday. Both died at the covid hospital during treatment. The rural count of the district touched 300 mark with 17 new cases.
In the city, Shegaon-Rahatgaon Road reported four cases to take its count to six that now includes one death. Two cases each came from Santoshinagar, Itwara Bazar, Tapovan premises, Budhwara, Nawathenagar, Badnera and Shriram colony that took their count to five, four, ten, five, six, 154 and two respectively. Kanwarnagar, Mahajanpura and Hamalpura posted a case each to take their count to 22, 10 and 12 respectively. A case each from Chhayanagar and Rajapeth took their count to seven each while Sindhunagar and Gawande Layout extended their tally to five each. Saraswatinagar, Jamil Colony, Sainagar and Zenith Hospital reported their third case today while Rathinagar and Vijay colony on VMV road reported their second. Tarkheda reported its tenth case today. Bapatwadi, Bhat Colony, Ramjyotnagar, Amle Plot, Ram Laxman Apartment reported their first case today.
Yavatmal: With two dead on July 25, Yavatmal registered 5 deaths in four days. The total Covid-19 death count of Yavatmal reached 27. The two deceased include a 48-year-old man from Bhosa Road and a 65-year-old man from Umarkhed. Ten new patients were also detected on July 25 which took the total number of cases to 720. With 451 patients recovered till date and 27 deaths, 242 are under treatment in Yavatmal. To ensure more tests, guardian minister Sanjay Rathod has released an additional Rs2 crore to procure 25000 rapid antigen kits. More than 300 tests will be conducted daily from next week onwards in Yavatmal district. Yavatmal, Ner, Darwha, and Pandharkawda, the four cities in the district are under weeklong curfew from Saturday.
Buldhana: Highest-ever 71 Covid-19 patients recovered and discharged from Buldhana on July 25 taking the total number of discharged patients to 586 which means the recovery rate here is 62%. An 88-year-old man from Deulgaon Raja died during treatment taking the total number of Covid-19 deaths in Buldhana to 25. This was the second death in Deulgaon Raja town. In all, 194 reports were received on July 25 out of which 29 were positive. The positive patients include a one-month old boy from Jalgaon Jamod, who happens of to be the youngest Covid-19 patient of Vidarbha. This took the total number of cases in Buldhana to 944. Now, 333 patients are under treatment here.
Akola: A 70-year-old man from Ganga Nagar locality in Akola died during treatment on July 25 taking the total number of deaths in the district to 108. Akola is conducting rapid antigen tests in high numbers. On Saturday, 321 tests were conducted out of which 49 tested positive. With this, the number of positive patients in Akola reached 2383. As patients are being detected at an early stage, more patients are recovering as per the protocol. Total 52 patients were discharged on July 25. Now, Akola has 317 patients under treatment. Recovery rate here is 82%.
Gadchiroli: Once again, 65 SRPF Jawans who were in institutional quarantine in Gadchiroli tested positive along with 4 civilians taking the total covid-19 count of Gadchiroli to 510. Out f these, 364 are Jawans of SRPF, CRPF and state police. Meanwhile, 19 patients recovered and were discharged on July 25. These include a 3-year-old boy. Now, 254 out of the 510 Covid-19 patients in Gadchiroli have been discharged. Total 255 are under treatment.
Bhandara: Eight residents from Lakhandur, Pawani, Tumsar and Mohadi tehsils in Bhandara tested positive on July 25. On the other hand, eight patients recovered and were discharged the same day. The number of active patients in Bhandara are intact at 42. The number of cases increased to 223, including 179 recovered and 2 deaths reported earlier this month.
Washim: With a spike of 30 cases from rural areas, Washim’s total surpassed the 500 mark on July 25. Four patients got discharged on the day taking the total number of recovered patients to 280. With 9 deaths reported till date, Wahsim has 229 patients under treatment.
Gondia: Two new coronavirus cases were reported in Gondia district on July 25. Among them, one is a resident of Civil Lines and another is from Tiroda tehsil. On the other hand, two patients recovered and were discharged. The total number of Covid-19 cases in Gondia are now 42.
Wardha: 13 patients were found positive on Saturday. This is highest single day spike ever since patients are being tested in the district. Eight are from Arvi and five from Sahur village of Ashti Tahsil. On the other hand, 10 patients have defeated coronavirus and they were discharged from hospitals.
Among those discharged from the hospital are patients from Arvi, Kakada village of Karanja Tahsil and Wardha. With proper treatment and healthy diet to improve the immune system, they could overcome the coronavirus disease. They were admitted to the Covid Care Centre as their areas are under restrictions.
Chandrapur: With the addition of 47 patients since Friday night, the number of Covid-19 cases in Chandrapur have risen to 396. The recovery of 220 patients is a breather for the health department. Currently there are 176 patients under treatment.
A total of 37 positive patients were detected on Saturday. They include seven from Gadchadur, two from Bhadrawati, 10 from Bramhapuri and three from Chandrapur city. Earlier, 10 positive cases were detected late in the night on Friday, which took the total to 47 in the last 24 hours.
Those found positive include two SRPF jawans from the special quarantine facility in Bhadrawati. There were 10 patients from village Kudesaghli in Bramhapuri tehsil. They are workers who have returned from Chennai and were under institutional quarantine at a local school.
