    Tamil Nadu reports almost 7,000 Covid-19 cases in a single day for the second consecutive day

    Chennai reported a marginal drop in cases with 1155 people testing positive on Sunday as opposed to 1329 people on Saturday. Other districts in the State continued to report spikes in numbers.

    Neighbouring Chengalpet reported 501 cases while Thiruvallur had 480 cases on Sunday. Kancheepuram, Ranipet and Virudhunagar had over 300 cases while Coimbatore, Dindigul, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Theni, Tuticorin and Villupuram had more than 200 cases.
    Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported 6986 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday as the State went in for the final complete Sunday lockdown before the State-wide lockdown is set to lift on July 31.
    This comes after the State reported the highest ever increase in cases on Saturday where 6988 people tested positive for the infection.

    The death toll rose to 3494 on Sunday with 85 more people succumbing to the infection.

    With this surge, the total tally of cases in Tamil Nadu stands at 213,723.

    However, in line with the State's aggressive testing strategy, as many as 62,305 persons were tested for Covid-19 on Sunday.

    Further, 5471 patients were discharged on Sunday taking the tally of recoveries to 156,526.
