    Tamil Nadu reports 6,993 Covid-19 positive cases on Monday; highest so far

    CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported 6993 new Covid-19 cases on Monday as the State taking the total tally of cases to 220,716.
    This happens to be the third consecutive day that the number of cases has been shy of the 7000 mark.

    The death toll rose to 3571 with a marginal drop in the number of cases from 85 on Sunday to 77 on Monday, the State media bulletin confirmed.

    Chennai reported 1138 cases on Monday which is in line with its pattern of being flat for about two weeks. Other districts in the State continued to report spikes in numbers.

    Neighbouring Chengalpet reported 448 cases while Thiruvallur had 474 cases on Monday. Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Tuticorin and Virudhunagar had over 300 cases while Kallakurichi, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Ranipet, Theni and Thiruvannamalai had more than 200 cases.

    However, in line with the State's aggressive testing strategy, as many as 61,342 persons were tested for Covid-19 on Monday.

    Further, 5723 patients were discharged on Monday taking the tally of recoveries to 162,249.
