THANE: An ayurveda medical shop owner from Thane’s Vasant Vihar area lost nearly Rs 81,000 after sharing an one-time password (OTP) with an online fraudster who posed as a credit card executive of a private bank.
The complainant told the police that in June, the ‘bank representative’ called him up and asked him to share the OTP for a credit card payment reversal. As the caller had all his card details, the shop owner was convinced and shared it.
Within minutes, he got a text message from the bank that Rs 80,800 was debited from his account.
He rushed to the bank, where the officials advised him to file a police complaint. The police have filed an FIR and are probing the case.
