An ayurvedic medicine shop owner was duped of Rs 80,800 by an online fraudster after fraudulently securing one-time password (OTP) from him.

THANE: An ayurvedic medicine shop owner was duped of Rs 80,800 by an online fraudster after fraudulently securing one-time password (OTP) from him.
The police said that the victim resides in Vasant Vihar area and has shop in the same vicinity.
In his complaint to the police, the victim said that he procured credit card of a private bank which has the credit limit of Rs 1.30 lakh.

It was the last month, while he was sitting in his medical shop, he received a call from the fraudster who told his name as well as even the credit card number.
The accused told him that the bank had given credit points and they shall be reversing it, he also told him that an OTP has been sent to him accordingly the unsuspecting victim told the OTP and immediately Rs 80,800 was debited and transferred to some other account.
The man realised that he has been duped and approached the bank but the officials there told him to register a case with the police under Section 66C and 66 D of Information Technology Act.
The police said that they are probing the case and no one is arrested so far. A senior official said they have repeatedly warned of sharing OTP or any confidential information to any stranger calling on the phone.
