    TN Governor asked to self-isolate for 7 days as three more test positive in Raj Bhavan

    Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has been kept under seven-day self-isolation as a precautionary measure after three more people at the Raj Bhavan tested positive for Coronavirus.
    A statement from the Raj Bhavan said that on Tuesday the medical officer found the governor to be fit and healthy but advised self-isolation for a week. As many as 84 security and fire services personnel deployed at the Raj Bhavan had tested positive for Covid-19, but none of them came into contact with the Governor or senior officials, the government had said last Thursday.

    As many as 38 people were tested, the statement said. Of them, three people tested positive.

    This comes as the State reported a marginal drop in cases on Wednesday. However, the number continued to be over 6,000 mark with 6426 new Covid-19 cases being reported in Tamil Nadu.

    On Monday the State witnessed the highest surge in cases with 6993 people testing positive for the infection.

    The death toll increased to 3741 on Wednesday with 82 more people succumbing to the infection.

    State capital Chennai continued to remain steady with 1117 cases on Wednesday. Other districts, however, continued to report increases.

    Chengalpet was the highest with 540 cases while Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Virudhunagar had over 300 cases and Coimbatore, Kanyakumari and Madurai reported more than 200 cases.

    With this, the total number of cases in the state has now touched 234,114, according to the media bulletin.

    There was a further dip in testing, however, with 58,818 people being tested as opposed to 59,584 on Tuesday and 61,342 persons on Monday.

    Further, 5927 patients were discharged on Wednesday, taking the count of recoveries so far to 172,883.
